# Summer Funding Opportunities Office (SFO) Funding for Internships or Research Within the U.S.

The Harvard Club of New York Foundation and the Mignone Center for Career Success (MCS) are piloting a program to support approximately 30 students pursuing internships or research at organizations based within New York City. The Summer Funding Opportunities Office (SFO) is overseeing the distribution of funding for this pilot.

In addition to the funding available to support students pursuing opportunities in New York City, the Summer Funding Opportunities Office can also support approximately 5 students pursuing internships or research anywhere in the United States.

## Award Amounts and Out-of-Pocket Expenses

### Award Amounts

- In-person or hybrid and in-person at least 2 days per week: $7,000.
- Virtual (only for internships not based in New York City): $4,000

### Out-of-Pocket Expenses

Funding awards may not cover all expenses. Students who receive an SFO award should be prepared to cover any additional expenses the award does not cover.

## Funding Availability

- Due to high demand, last year, SFO was only able to fund about 25% of applications for New York City opportunities and 20% of applications for opportunities anywhere in the U.S. outside of New York City. Funding decisions are made by lottery and are not based on financial need.
- Not all students on financial aid are funded, and internship confirmation does not guarantee funding.
- Preference will be given to opportunities that are unpaid.
- Funding for fully remote internships is limited and only available for internships not based in New York City.
